A powerful Russian offensive struck central and southeastern Ukraine overnight, killing one and causing destruction to homes and businesses in different cities, according to officials. Meanwhile, Kyiv retaliated by hitting two oil refineries inside Russia.
On Saturday, Ukraine’s Emergency Service confirmed on Telegram that Zaporizhia came under heavy fire.

At least one person has been confirmed dead and 28 others injured, among them children, according to Ivan Fedorov, head of the regional military administration.

The Ukrainian Air Force stated that it intercepted 510 drones out of 537, and 38 of 45 missiles during Russia’s overnight assault. Still, five missiles and 24 drones hit targets across seven areas.

Fedorov noted that the strikes destroyed residential homes and damaged multiple establishments, including restaurants, repair shops, and factories.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Governor Serhiy Lysak reported missile strikes on Dnipro and Pavlohrad. “The area is facing a massive attack. Residents should seek shelter,” he wrote on Telegram.

Though Dnipropetrovsk had mostly avoided heavy combat since the start of the war in February 2022, Kyiv acknowledged on Tuesday that Russian troops had entered the region. Moscow had earlier claimed it secured a presence there.

Unlike Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhia, and Crimea, Russia has not formally declared Dnipropetrovsk as part of its territory.

The chief of Russia’s general staff, Valery Gerasimov, said on Saturday that Russian forces were conducting nonstop offensives along the entire front line.
